Suppression includes fuel mix enrichment only of such cylinder, where premature ignition is detected if parameter change rate exceeds threshold value. Also, mixture in other cylinders is enriched, if parameter change rate is below threshold value. In another version presence of premature ignition sign is generated of steady-state mode in cylinder at first and second states, when sensor output signal exceeds first threshold level. Also performing premature ignition detection threshold correction for first cylinder based on air charge in first cylinder change rate.

The oil level in the crankcase oil sump (32) is determined by the electronic controller (48) based on the pressure equalization in the crankcase (28) with the atmospheric pressure. In this case, the single common crankcase sensor (63) is a pressure sensor that reads the pressure below the oil level in the crankcase sump (32). An engine system is also disclosed.
