SUBSTANCE: invention relates to image capture and processing. First, produced is the colour images capture map with printed specimens of known colour (for example, coordinates of colour XYZ). Then, tested colour image is captured with the help of accessible household hardware, for example, digital camera or mobile phone with camera. Said image includes also said colour images capture map. In compliance with one version, said image is, then, transmitted to colour remote definition service to define colour specimen colour. Then, regressive analysis is performed using the colour specimen RGB on said image and their known colours XYZ to define the characteristics of image capture device responses. Image capture device characteristics defined, colour XYZ of unknown colour specimen can be defined by its colour RGB on the image. Algorithm of division into clusters is used for identification is several colours of unknown colour specimen exist.

According to the present invention, method of text segmentation by colour criterion consists in performance of the following operations: initial image is broken down into non-overlapping units of pixels; new image Z is generated, in which each pixel represents corresponding unit of initial image; in process of scanning serial units are selected from initial image; classification is carried out for current unit by criterion "monochromatic/colour" in space of opposite colours; initial colour unit RGB is broken down into monochromatic units R, G and B; detector of Laplacian-Gaussian edges is applied with specified threshold T to monochromatic unit; number of edges is calculated for each pixel in Z; classification of "text/non-text unit" is performed by comparison of edge number with set threshold C; classified channels are combined, using logical operator OR.
