Emulsion for paper sizing, method for its production and usage

FIELD: textile, paper.

SUBSTANCE: emulsion contains anhydrides of fatty acids, which are produced from unsaturated or saturated fatty acids or their mixtures with length of chain from 12 to 24 carbon atoms and are preserved as liquid at the temperature below 50°C. If necessary, emulsion for paper sizing additionally contains a reactive or a non-reactive agent for sizing and/or a fixator with aluminium ions content. Emulsion for paper sizing is produced by emulsification of fatty acids in water phase by means of shearing forces or intense mixing. Emulsifiers are used to form emulsion. Emulsion is used for continuous sizing of paper mass or to treat paper surface in sizing press. Emulsion is used to produce paper.

EFFECT: eliminates formation of sediments with sticky consistency with regular indices of pH in process of paper making and reduced duration of contact with water system.

The technical field to which the invention relates.

The present invention relates to new water emulsions for paper sizing using anhydrides of fatty acids.

The level of technology

The use of anhydrides of fatty acids as a means for sizing paper is already known for a long time, see US-A-1,996,707. For example, in DE 1213221 described obtaining dispersions of anhydrides of fatty acids for paper sizing. This anhydrides of fatty acids emuleret at temperatures above their melting point in the presence of anionic funds in cationic starch. The method prevents the formation of anhydrite aggregates that can form sediment in the dispersion. In the example below anhydride stearic acid, which at room temperature is present in water in the form of solid particles and therefore less susceptible to hydrolysis. However, given the high reactivity anhydrides, should take into account the speed of flow of hydrolysis.

In US-A-3,409,500 described method of sizing with the use of anhydrides of fatty acids and water-soluble, cellulosecontaining cationic polyamine. It also applies anhydride in the form of cordogecostl dispersion, formed by rapid cooling of the emulsion. As the anhydride of the fatty acid is contained in VI is e of example, the anhydride of stearic acid. Stability during storage with this method of preparation is indicated only conditionally. This restriction is crucial, as the anhydrides of fatty acids along with more stable, but also more inert alkylenediamines not established use as a tool for paper sizing.

The use of anhydrides of fatty acids as a tool for paper sizing disclosed in US-A-3,582,464. Dispersion, which is prepared similarly to the above dispersions anhydrides of fatty acids at elevated temperatures in the form of an emulsion and which stabilize cooling, also have a disadvantage, which is manifested in the ongoing hydrolysis, limiting the activity of the product.

Anhydrides alkenylamine acids are also very effective tools for paper sizing. Their high reactivity prevents the transportation of ready-to-use emulsion. However, because of its liquid state of aggregation of the anhydride alkenylamine acid can be directly emulsified and used in a paper machine. This makes necessary the use of a homogenizer in place, but also has the advantage that along with the high efficiency of the active substance may be transported in a pure form, without emulsifiers, stabilizers or bioc the funds to protect dispersions. Due to hydrolysis and use of calcium carbonate as filler anhydrides alkenylamine acid can form precipitates, which because of its stickiness can compromise the purity of the system.

Disclosure of inventions

It was found that the use of liquid at a temperature below the 50aboutWith anhydrides of fatty acids derived from unsaturated or saturated fatty acids or their mixtures with a chain length of 12 to 24 carbon atoms, produces a very effective emulsion sizing. Thanks to its liquid state of aggregation of the anhydrides of fatty acids can be emulsified directly before use in the paper machine. The result is reduced to the minimum duration of contact with the water system and can be eliminated unwanted hydrolysis. The anhydride of the fatty acid can be added directly to the aqueous phase and can be emulsified by means of shear forces by using a homogenizer or intensive mixing. For the formation of the emulsion can be applied emulsifiers. When the emulsion containing starch, the aqueous phase has a positive effect on substantively cellulose. This emulsion is used for the direct continuous sizing of paper pulp or for surface treatment of paper in the size press.

As the e liquid anhydrides of fatty acids can be used: anhydrides of unsaturated and saturated fatty acids or their mixtures with a chain length of 12 to 24 carbon atoms, mixed anhydrides of these fatty acids or their mixtures and acetic acid, the anhydrides prepared from mixtures of the mentioned fatty acids and resin acids.

The invention is not limited to the origin of the used fatty acids. Possible sources include: fatty acids, tall oil, vegetable fatty acids from sunflower, rapeseed, soybean, flax, and animal oils. Resin acids can be, for example, turpentine oil, tall oil resins and rosin, or mixtures thereof.

Also the invention is not limited to a specific method of obtaining anhydrides of fatty acids. A simple and popular method is the conversion of fatty acids with acetic anhydride, with its subsequent removal. Acetic acid may be recovered anhydride and used in a closed loop.

Liquid anhydride of the fatty acid may be used in conjunction with another system sizing. Thanks to its liquid state anhydride of the fatty acid can be mixed in any proportion with the anhydride alkenylamine acid. In the case of the use of combinations of anhydride alkenylamine acid and anhydride fatty acids marked synergistic effect. Therefore, the required properties of the target product can be defined by the ratio of the components of the mixture.

Neozed the NGOs was established, that aluminium salts have a positive impact on the effect of sizing with the use of the anhydride of the fatty acid. These include, among other things, the sulfates of aluminum or polychloride aluminum.

Anhydrides of fatty acids compatible with water, calcium systems. Under normal pH during paper production does not generate precipitation with adhesive consistency, as it is observed in some cases when using anhydride alkenylamine acid.

System sizing paper according to the invention is based on the use of source materials present in the primary feedstock for the production of paper - wood. Therefore, the tool for paper sizing is used again for the same task in a modified form, which was decided initially to ensure plant properties.

The following examples serve to further explain the invention.

Example 1. Getting anhydrides of fatty acids

In a typical experiment fatty acid of tall oil and acetic anhydride were introduced into the reactor in equimolar amounts and transformed. Five hours later removed the acetic acid under vacuum, and the temperature did not exceed 150°C. the Output anhydride fatty acids amounted to 91.6%.

Example 2. Test different withvarying glue on the effectiveness of sizing

For testing different types of glue was applied laboratory listopadova system Rapid-Köhten. As the cellulose was used bleached pulp containing 70% long and 30% short fibers, crushed to the consistency of grind 30° Shopper Reglero.

As the release added aluminum sulfate. Having first determined the optimum amount of aluminum sulfate build-concentration curve for each tool for sizing. In experiments using calcium carbonate as a filler its content was 20% by weight of dry paper.

To 99 parts of 4%cationic starch solution was added 1 part of anhydrous glue and produced shear emulsification device (Ultraturrax) at a rotational speed of 10000 rpm for one minute. The obtained adhesive emulsion remained stable for about 2 hours. Before gluing produced is diluted with water at a ratio of 1:10.

For comparison used a traditional cationic dispersion of the resin adhesive based on resin acids of tall oil. Additive to pulp produced in the form of a diluted standard product.
