Method of producing hydrogen and carbon dioxide from biomass

FIELD: biotechnological methods and alternate fuels.

SUBSTANCE: invention concerns methods and means for production of hydrogen and carbon dioxide from brown algae for use under hydrogen power engineering conception using modern biotechnological techniques. Method according to invention resides in that feed biomass is provided by brown algae, which are gathered in Sargasso sea with the aid of trawler collectors and supplied to mother ship. At the latter, algae are processed into methane with the aid of biological enzymes and then methane undergoes steam-oxygen conversion to form synthesis gas consisting of hydrogen/carbon monoxide mixture, after which carbon monoxide is subjected to steam-assisted conversion. Resulting mixture is separated unto hydrogen and carbon dioxide. Hydrogen is purified on palladium membrane and passed to modular system of metal hydride hydrogen accumulators, while carbon monoxide is collected in gas-cylinders in compressed of liquid state. Thus obtained products are transported to sea ports in metal hydride containers and gas cylinders. Production of electric power for industrial processes is performed using fuel cell technology.

EFFECT: increased production of hydrogen and carbon dioxide from world ocean resources.

The invention relates to means and methods of production of hydrogen and carbon dioxide from brown algae and can be used within the concept of hydrogen energy, using modern biotechnology.

The closest technical solution to the declared object is a method of producing hydrogen and carbon dioxide from biomass, which consists in the fact that exercise consistently acidic, neutral and methane fermentation of biomass by RF patent No. 2095407, CL 12 M 1/107 from 15.02.1995,

The disadvantage of this method is the relatively low efficiency of producing methane due to the lack of biomass in large volume and limited its occurrence as a resource.

The purpose of the invention is the increased production of hydrogen and carbon dioxide from biomass by obtaining these products from brown algae of the World Ocean.

This is achieved by a method for producing hydrogen and carbon dioxide from biomass, which consists in the fact that exercise consistently acidic, neutral and methane fermentation, as biomass use brown algae, which are collected in the Sargasso sea of the Atlantic ocean, the main technological processes of production of hydrogen and carbon dioxide is produced on the ship-a floating base in the Sargasso sea, and the collection and delivery of brown, bodoro the lei on the floating base is produced using trawlers-collectors. On the floating base process algae using bioferment to methane, then carry out a steam-oxygen conversion of methane to form synthesis gas consisting of a mixture of hydrogen and carbon dioxide, after which make a separation of hydrogen and carbon dioxide with the purification of hydrogen on the palladium membrane and feed it into a modular system of metal hydride storage units of hydrogen and carbon dioxide is collected in containers for compressed or liquid state. The products obtained in metal hydride tanks and containers on transport ships delivered in ports. Power generation process is performed with the use of fuel cell technology.

The drawing shows a diagram of the system for the implementation of the proposed method.

Complex to implement the method of producing hydrogen and carbon dioxide from biomass includes ship-a floating base 1, trawlers-collectors 2 brown algae, installation 3 processing algae to methane, installation of 4 for processing methane into synthesis gas, a mixture of hydrogen and carbon dioxide, the installation of 5 separation of hydrogen and carbon dioxide, the collector of hydrogen 6, the collector of carbon dioxide 7, the fuel cell power plants and the transport vessel 9.

Method for the production of hydrogen and carbon dioxide from biomass implementation is given as follows.

One of the most powerful sources of biomass in the biosphere of the Earth are brown algae of the World Ocean. They attract the attention of scientists oceanographers and biologists as a source for methane production. There is an area of the World Ocean, covered with floating brown algae-Sargassum. This site is located in the heart of the Atlantic Ocean between 23-35° North latitude and 30-68° West longitude and is called the Sargasso sea. These floating algae cover the surface of the ocean and extend to depths of 10 to 12 meters to the sea Area 6...7 million square km, i.e. it is roughly the size of Western Europe. The depth of the ocean in this place reaches 7 km If you take the algal density 200 kg/m3the size of the biomass will be about 200 billion tons of Sargasso seaweed. Apparently, seaweed in the Sargasso sea is not rising and fall of sea currents from the coastal areas of the World Ocean. This stretch of Ocean is international waters. There are no international laws that prohibit collecting these algae and process them, so the concept of hydrogen energy, using modern biotechnology, it is advisable to collect these algae and to process them.

You can build the following chain technologies. Brown algae are processed into methane. If you look at the achievements of the Department Henichesk the th Enzymology Chemical faculty of Moscow state University (see newspaper Search No. 12 (774) dated March 26, 2004, p.7), using enzymes that dissolve biomass, algae processed into methane and carbon dioxide. Further processing results obtained synthesis gas according to the following scheme: is steam-oxygen conversion of methane; conversion of carbon monoxide with water vapor, resulting in a mixture of carbon dioxide and molecular hydrogen, then the hydrogen and carbon dioxide are separated. The hydrogen is purified, they fill a separate container with metal hydrides, and carbon dioxide under pressure or in condensed form) - cylinders. On transport ships these tanks and cylinders are delivered to the ports of Russia and other countries. Part of the produced hydrogen is used to produce electricity in power plants based on fuel cells. The produced hydrogen is used as an energy source. Carbon dioxide is used for urea production.

SUBSTANCE: the invention is pertaining to biogeotechnology, in particular, to engineering bioenergetics. The method allows to reduce a biowaste processing duration. The household, urban and agricultural garbage (biowastes) in the unsorted state is loaded into rack stacks by a layer of 50-70 cm, distributing solid impurities for obtaining porosity. Then the fermenting chamber is sealed. Each 1.5-2 hours automatically the waste mass is humidified, and at an initial stage of fermentation the temperature in the chamber is kept up to + 55°C by the heating system ensured with system of a preheating. In 8-10 days the fermentation process is ended, the gaseous methane is finally pumped out by the air engine into a gas holder and grading starts: 10 % of the gained fertilizer is left as a seeding agent for the next charge. The soft and solid plastic impurities are stored for their further use as a feed stock at production of the necessary household items: packaging materials, containers, hoses etc.
