FIELD: method for inner sizing of cardboard for packing of liquid products, water-repellent adhesive substance for inner sizing, cardboard for packing of liquid products, package for liquid products and use of adhesive substance for inner sizing.

SUBSTANCE: the adhesive substance for inner sizing includes the derivative of oxytanon of formula (1), typically 2-oxytanon of formula (II). Formulae (I), (II) are given in the invention description. In the derivative of oxytanon of formula (I) n has the value from 0 to 6. In formulas (I) and (II) R represents hydrogen or linear hydrocarbon chain, and R`, R``, R``` represent hydrocarbon chains: R` and R`` are mainly obtained from non-branched linear fatty acids, R```-linear or branched alcyl chain or acyclic alcyl chain.

EFFECT: provided improved method for inner sizing of cardboard for packing of liquid products, improved cardboard for packing of liquid products, package for liquid products manufactured from such a cardboard.

The present invention relates to a method of internal sizing cardboard (sizing in weight) for packaging liquid products, adhesive substance for internal sizing used for the manufacture of cardboard for packaging liquid products, cardboard for packaging liquid products, to packaging for liquid products and to the use of adhesives for internal sizing, defined in the preambles of the independent claims presented below.

Under an adhesive for internal sizing imply an adhesive mixed with a suspension of fibers manufactured product, such as cardboard for the packaging of liquid products. Appointment of internal sizing in the manufacture of cardboard is usually increasing the strength of cardboard. The use of hydrophobic adhesives, such as adhesives based on alkylating dimers or AKD-adhesives, simultaneously increases the hydrophobicity of cardboard, i.e. also increases the strength of the cardboard in wet conditions. Thus, water adhesives are used, for example, in the carton for liquid products.

Good hydrophobicity provides advantages in the manufacture of packaging. The manufacturing conditions are wet, so because of swelling under the action of moisture cardboard with bad hydrophobes the firm can vary in size as much that it interferes with the operation of machines for the manufacture of packaging and filling.

Usually carton packaging for liquid products has inflicted on both sides, the coating of various moisture-resistant materials, such as polyethylene. Thus, increasing the hydrophobicity of the cardboard using the above adhesive for internal sizing can be seen as a precautionary measure for the packaging itself. However, the hydrophobicity of cardboard can be tested for possible damage in the floor, or when in the manufacture of packaging coated not entirely due to the infringing technology or manufacturing errors, for example, in the weld area.

Above AKD-adhesives, i.e. based adhesives alkylating dimers containing 2-oxetanone, usually used to increase the hydrophobicity of cardboard, so these adhesives were obtained using linear fatty acids, the length of the hydrocarbon chain which is typically 14-20 carbon atoms. When the internal sizing of cardboard such adhesives are usually used in amounts of about 0.1 to 0.8%, typically about 0.2% based on the weight of the fibers. AKD-add glue in the form of a dispersion to the suspension of fibers, when the goal is the distribution of the sizing agent between the fibers and the binding of a sizing agent with the fibers. AKD-adhesives can provide the cardboard is quite good resistance to liquids.

Cardboard reinforced the traditional way, in regard to its hydrophobicity, it is possible, meets the needs related to the strength of the packaging for liquid and food products with a short period of treatment, even in the above exceptional cases. However, there may be problems associated with packaging designed for long-term storage.

In particular, problems can arise in cases where the edges of the paperboard, not containing coating exposed to liquids for longer periods of time, for example the area of the weld in some packages for juice or packings for pasteurized milk. Not having the coverage area of the seam, for example the cut ends of the cardboard will absorb more liquid, the more it will be stored in the package. In areas without cover seams are contained in packaging liquid disconnects between an adhesive for internal sizing and fibers, as a consequence, the fluid penetrates more deeply into the cardboard and makes it less durable.

Sterilization packaging can also be a problem because it is usually carried out by hot hydrogen peroxide. Hot hydrogen peroxide is readily absorbed by the cut edges of the packaging material cardboard and, thus, makes it less durable cardboard.

U.S. patent 4927496 offers which gives way to prevent absorption of hydrogen peroxide in the cardboard by adding a source material for the manufacture of cardboard, in addition to the AKD-adhesive, adhesive-based cationic resin and a substance that prevents dissolution. Another U.S. patent 5456800 also serves to prevent the absorption of hydrogen peroxide by adding to the original material for the manufacture of cardboard, in addition to the AKD-glue, resins, hardening at high temperatures, are capable of forming covalent bonds with cellulose fibers, and adhesives that do not interact with cellulose.

In theory, they could prevent the absorption of milk, juice, etc. in cardboard through his cropped region by increasing the amount of adhesive for internal sizing. Upon receipt AKD-adhesives used for internal sizing of cardboard, to achieve the desired hydrophobicity use fatty acids with long chain, such as stearic acid. Due to the long hydrocarbon chains AKD-adhesives require relatively high operating temperatures and, thus, do not want them adding to the suspension of fibers in quantities greater than are used at present. At lower temperatures such adhesives tend to be precipitated on the surfaces of process equipment, which causes problems for the smooth operation of the process.

Long unbranched hydrocarbon chain in AKD-adhesives are also a disadvantage, because maturation, i.e. the contraction in the Finance linkages between the glue and fibres, in the manufacture of cardboard slow, therefore, to ensure maturation of glue necessary to artificially maintain the rest of the finished paperboard at high temperature for several hours. Therefore, cardboard, for example, cannot be cut immediately after its exit from the machine for the production of cardboard, and to be stored in cardboard for some time in coils, which retain heat required for curing. This slows down production and requires space for storing rolls.

Earlier in European patent application EP 98119640 it was proposed, inter alia, for the manufacture of paper designed for inkjet printers, for use as adhesives for internal sizing adhesive containing at least 25 percent by weight (wt.%) the derived 2-oxetanone having a low melting point, i.e. <35°C. In the present adhesives, at least one of the hydrocarbon groups derived from fatty acids 2-oxetanone represents a saturated or unsaturated branched hydrocarbon chain.

However, adhesive for internal sizing, containing such unsaturated hydrocarbon chain, cannot be used for gluing cardboard packaging for liquids, because there are problems of taste and smell. Unsaturated carbohydrate is native chain easily interact with oxygen, in other words, become rancid, forming smelling and having an unpleasant taste aldehydes. Such processes, making the product rancid, can begin in the manufacture of cardboard and continue under favorable conditions, i.e. under the action of heat and oxygen, for example, in the finished packaging. Such odor problems also are carried by the flow of water used in the machine for the manufacture of cardboard, on any other parts of the process.

The problem of the emergence of taste, caused by oxidation and transported from the packing material Packed in the product, such as milk, other foods or tobacco, can be reduced in accordance with U.S. patent 5603997 by adding to the packaging material hydrophobic zeolite. In addition, earlier in the publication WO 98/41686 was proposed to improve the properties of thin paper designed for color inkjet printers, the ink absorption using an appropriate filler and adhesive for internal sizing. The publication proposes the use of a filler based on calcium carbonate and glue for internal sizing, containing 2-oxetanone. 2-oxetanone used in the adhesive for internal sizing, get one or more, on the RAM saturated, fatty acids having at least one main branch, consisting of 6-22 carbon atoms, and at least one branched hydrocarbon chain. This ensures the absorption of ink, suitable for both black and white and color printing.

In the publication WO 97/30218 presents 2-oxetanone of multimer, suitable for gluing in the mass of thin paper, with multimer is not solid at a temperature of 35°C. In a mixture of multimers offered in this publication, at least 25 wt.% multimers contain disorder, such as a branched alkyl group or a branched or linear alkeneamine group. The proposed 2-oxetanone of multimer used for surface sizing paper thin.

The aim of the present invention is to solve the above problems.

Thus, the goal is to provide an improved method of internal sizing cardboard for packaging liquid products, superior adhesive for internal sizing of paper Board for packaging liquid products, improved carton for packaging liquid products and packaging for liquid products made of such a Board.

The next objective of the present invention is the provision of adhesive for internal sizing, providing improved operation of machines for which izgotovlenie cardboard.

Another objective is to provide adhesives for internal sizing, whereby it is possible to shorten the time required for maturation of cardboard.

Another purpose is to provide adhesives for internal sizing of paper Board for packaging liquid products, which prevents problems associated with the occurrence of the odor and/or taste in a cardboard box and in the process of its production, or which at least substantially reduces such problems.

To achieve the above objectives, the way the internal sizing of paper Board for packaging liquid products, in accordance with the present invention an improved adhesive for internal sizing of paper Board for packaging liquid products, adhesive for internal sizing and use of, improved carton for packaging liquid products and made from it packaging for liquid products differ, as defined in the characterizing portion of the independent claims presented below.

Typical adhesive for internal sizing of the present invention includes a derivative of oxetanone formula (I), typically 2-oxetanone formula (II), i.e., AKD-glue.

In derived oxetanone formula (I) n topicname value from 0 to 6. In formulas (I) and (II) R represents hydrogen or linear hydrocarbon chain, and R', R" and R"' represents a hydrocarbon chain.

In accordance with the present invention the hydrocarbon chains R' and R" adhesives for internal sizing of paper Board for packaging liquid products mainly derived from unbranched linear fatty acids, and ≤20 wt.%, typically about 2-15 wt.%, mostly 5-12 wt.% derived from extensive and mainly saturated fatty acids.

Thus, in a typical solution in accordance with the present invention, 80-95% of the hydrocarbon chains R' and R"are derived from fatty acids are linear and about 5-20% of them are extensive and mostly saturated.

In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention 5-10 wt.%, most preferably about 8-10 wt.% hydrocarbon chains R' and R" are derived from branched and mainly saturated fatty acids.

R"' represents a linear or branched alkyl chain or acyclic alkyl chain containing 2-40, typically 4-12 carbon atoms.

R represents hydrogen or linear hydrocarbon chain, typically containing 1-6 carbon atoms, most typically 1-2 carbon atoms. Preferably R represents hydrogen.

AKD, or alkylcatechols dimer, is a typical 2-ACS is tanona, which can be used in the compositions of the adhesives for internal sizing, as provided by the present invention. In this case, in part AKD-adhesive, at least one of the two hydrocarbon chains AKD R' and R" may be branched. The main part of both linear and branched hydrocarbon chains are saturated. Thus, in a typical adhesive substance for internal sizing of the present invention the hydrocarbon chains R' and R" are mainly derived from linear, mainly saturated fatty acids, typically containing 12-22, most typically 16-18 carbon atoms, and in his small part derived from branched, mainly saturated fatty acids, the length of the hydrocarbon chain which is typically 12-22, more typically 16-18, most typically 18 carbon atoms.

part or all of the hydrocarbon chains R' can be obtained from branched fatty acids, while the hydrocarbon chains R ' obtained from linear fatty acids,

or

part or all of the hydrocarbon chains R ' can be obtained from branched fatty acids, while the hydrocarbon chains R' obtained from linear fatty acids.

In the solution according to the present invention is an adhesive for internal sizing may contain derivatives of oxetanone or 2-oxetanone formulas (I) and (II), so they branched hydrocarbon chains R' and R" can be derived from the same fatty acids or of two or more different fatty acids. Typically, R' and R" are derived from the same fatty acids. Typically the main part of the linear and branched hydrocarbon chains derived from fatty acids, the length of the hydrocarbon chain of which is 12-22 carbon atoms, more typically 16-18 carbon atoms.

Adhesive for internal sizing of the present invention is added to a suspension of fibers used for manufacturing of cardboard, in the amount of usually not more than 1%, typically about 0.1 to 0.8%, most typically <0.4% in the calculation of the mass of fibers. In addition to the adhesive substance for internal sizing of the present invention to the cardboard can be added to one or more known adhesives for internal sizing, such as hydrophobic glue, rosin size, polymer glue or ASA-adhesive (based on anhydride of alkenyl succinic acid) or other suitable adhesive, for example, to reduce the absorption of cardboard lactic acid or peroxide and/or to improve the strength in the dry state and/or wet strength, or when you need to get some other properties.

Thanks branched hydrocarbon chains contained in the adhesive agent for the internal sizing of the present invention, when using this adhesive for internal sizing receive some significant advantages in comparison with traditional adhesive for internal sizing when is ispolzovanie the same conditions. For example, you can specify the following benefits adhesives for internal sizing of the present invention, containing a branched hydrocarbon chain:

- at the operating temperature of the machine for the manufacture of cardboard adhesive for internal sizing is not easily stick to the surfaces of the machine, as appropriate, traditionally used for internal sizing with AKD-adhesive, containing only linear hydrocarbon chain, resulting in the use of the solution according to the present invention, the operation of machines for the manufacture of cardboard improves;

- adhesive for internal sizing already well distributed at the operating temperature of the machine for the manufacture of cardboard, whereby the effectiveness of internal sizing is increased in comparison with traditional internal sizing; and

- adhesive for internal sizing Matures or interacts with the fibers faster than traditional adhesive for internal sizing, therefore, as a rule, it is possible to reduce the retention time.

As important advantages of adhesive for internal sizing of the present invention should take into account the fact that to achieve the advantages mentioned above adhesive for internal sizing does not have to contain more than ye shall state the number of unsaturated hydrocarbon chains, otherwise it may become rancid. This way you can avoid problems with smell and taste, which appear, if to achieve the above mentioned benefits associated with adhesion, distribution and maturation, upon receipt AKD to use unsaturated fatty acids.

As additional advantages of adhesive Cobb120and by tests of absorption at the edges, typical of cardboard packaging for liquids, REP of lactic acid and REP N2O. In the same conditions adhesive for internal sizing of the present invention gives essentially the same effect sizing, and the same hydrophobicity as regular AKD-glue.

Table 1 also shows that when the number of hydrocarbon chains derived from branched fatty acids in the adhesive substance for internal sizing is about 10 wt.%, then characteristics of the cardboard, obtained using the internal sizing such an adhesive, is clearly improved. For example, the value of REP N2About2for such a Board is significantly improved when the number of branched hydrocarbon chains in the adhesive substance for internal sizing increases from 5 wt.% up to 10 wt.%. At the same time, the values of REP lactic acid and values Cobb120for cardboard remain relatively constant. Thus, table 1 shows that the characteristics of cardboard on average improve when the number of branched hydrocarbon chains in the adhesive substance for internal sizing is ≤20 wt.%.

The results of the tests are presented in table 2 show that with the increase in AKD-Klee number hydrocarbon chains derived from branched fatty acid chains, it is possible to reduce the number of palipane. The results presented in table 3 (BUT = not detected), show that AKD-adhesive for internal sizing of the present invention containing a hydrocarbon chain derived from branched fatty acids, does not create any problems with smell and taste. This invention should not be limited to the above variants of the embodiments presented as examples, and the goal is the possibility of wide application of the present invention within the scope defined by the attached claims.

3. The method according to claim 1, characterized in that the main part of the linear hydrocarbon chains R' and R" are derived from saturated fatty acids, more typically containing 16-18 carbon atoms.

4. The method according to claim 1, characterized in that the main part of the branched hydrocarbon chains R' and R" are derived from saturated fatty acids, more typically containing 16-18 carbon atoms, most typically 18 carbon atoms.

5. The method according to claim 1, characterized in that a maximum of 1.5% of the hydrocarbon chains R' and R" are derived from unsaturated fatty acids.

6. The method according to claim 1, characterized in that the hydrocarbon chain R"' is a linear or branched alkyl chain or acyclic alkyl chain, typically containing 4-12 carbon atoms.

7. The method according to claim 1, characterized in that the adhesive for internal sizing is added to a suspension of fibers used for manufacturing of cardboard, in an amount not more than 1%, tipis is but about 0.1 to 0.8%, most typically <0.4 percent, by weight of fibers.

8. The method according to claim 7, characterized in that the adhesive substance for internal sizing optionally add one or more adhesives for internal sizing, such as hydrophobic rosin size, polymer glue or ASA-glue, to reduce the absorption of cardboard lactic acid or peroxide.

9. Gidrofobiziruyuschey adhesive for internal sizing used for the manufacture of cardboard, such as cardboard for packaging liquids, when this adhesive contains a derivative of oxetanone formula (I)

13. Adhesive for internal sizing according to claim 9, characterized in that a maximum of 1.5% of the hydrocarbon chains R' and R" are derived from unsaturated fatty acids.

14. Adhesive for internal sizing according to claim 9, characterized in that the hydrocarbon chain R"' is a linear or branched alkyl chain or acyclic alkyl chain, typically containing 4-12 carbon atoms.

15. Adhesive for internal sizing according to claim 9, characterized in that the adhesive substance for internal sizing optionally add one or more adhesives for internal sizing, such as the Hydra is Pobierowo rosin size, polymer adhesive or ASA-glue, to reduce the absorption of cardboard lactic acid or peroxide and/or increase the strength of the cardboard dry and/or wet strength.
