Its application for recognition and reading of the marking characters, in particular, on the surface of the oil country tubular goods, allows to obtain a technical result in increasing the reliability of the reading and recognition of images with reduced image distortion. This result is achieved due to the fact that controlled the surface of the light pipe by rotating the pipe about its axis, and using video cameras to create an image with further computer processing. The aim of the invention is to increase the value and reliability of recognition and reading, as well as minimizing image distortion.
