The invention relates to a method for dissolving plutonium or plutonium alloy. The dissolution is carried out by bringing into contact with a water mixture for dissolution, which contains nitric acid, carboxylic acid, manifesting complexing properties in respect of plutonium, and a compound containing at least one radical-NH2such as urea. The invention also relates to a method for conversion of plutonium or alloy of plutonium oxide and plutonium to produce nuclear fuel from the specified oxide. The method is applicable, in particular, to the extraction of plutonium contained in nuclear weapons, with the aim of its use in nuclear reactors for civilian purposes, in particular in the form of MOX fuel. 1. The method of dissolution of plutonium or plutonium alloy by bringing it into contact with the water mixture for dissolution, which contains nitric acid, carboxylic acid, manifesting complexing properties in respect of plutonium and connection, steriade auusie properties in respect of plutonium, choose among formic acid, oxalic acid, ascorbic acid, tartaric acid and mixtures thereof.

5. The method according to p. 4, where the mixture contains 1-15 mol/l nitric acid, 1-8 mol/l formic acid and 0.2 to 1 mol/l urea.

6. The method according to any of paragraphs.1-5, where the dissolution is carried out at a temperature selected in the range from ambient temperature to the boiling point of the mixture.
