SUBSTANCE: rotary dryer for tobacco leaves comprises the drying chamber with the loading and unloading window on the side surface with the rotor disposed inside, and the system of air ducts. The rotor is made in the form of a rotating platform with support wheels and the bearing on the symmetry axis of the drying chamber, has the drive mechanism including engagement the drive sprocket teeth and the pins of the rotation axes of the drive shaft and the central rack vertical shaft, intersecting at the right angle; the system of air ducts comprises the air duct of the discharge line and the air duct of the suction line. An adjustable shutter is provided on the discharge line, which is fixed in the center of the outlet pipe of the discharge line air duct, which has the vertical swing axis, and four shutters with vertical swing axes are installed along the circumference of the suction line air duct located in the center of the drying chamber.

EFFECT: simplification of the dryer construction, reducing the energy consumption and increasing the drying uniformity.

Tobacco heating and storing combined with natural cooling are performed under the conditions of repeated alternation at equal 30-60 minutes' intervals. During heating to the preset temperature at the colouring and drying stages the drying medium temperature increase rate is equal to 0.5C per hour, at the stages of colouring fixation and additional drying of the midvein the drying medium temperature increase rate is equal to 1-2C per hour. Relative humidity of the drying medium is gradually and uniformly reduced. Tobacco storing is performed with ventilation switched off.
