Method of small arms barrel hardening

FIELD: weapons and ammunition.

SUBSTANCE: barrel breech end is subjected to hardening by heat treatment and barrel is subjected to external reduction by application of detonation coating on barrel outer surface.

EFFECT: higher quality of hardening, simplified process.

The invention relates to the field of defence technology, namely the production of gun weapon systems, and can be used in the manufacture of weapons, as well as during repair works.

Analogue of the invention is a method [1], which produces hardening of the surface layer of the bore by applying and hardening wear resistant coating derived from a polyfunctional compound.

The disadvantage of analogue is that the applied coating does not protect the trunk from strong tensile stresses in the shot, leading to material fatigue of the trunk.

As a prototype of the selected method [2], including thermal increase the hardness of the stem and the subsequent napressovyvanie on the trunk of the casing, the heat treatment for hardening expose the entire metal of the breech of the barrel, including the chamber and the beginning of the threaded part on a length of not less than three calibers, and then to an area with high hardness zapressovyvajut casing, and the casing covers this area in a length of not less than one caliber.

The disadvantage of the prototype method is the difficulty of consolidating treatment of the trunk associated with the need for more production casing and preparatory operations with the barrel for hot overmolding casing.

Technical the definition of the result of the present invention is to improve the quality and simplify the method of reinforcing material handling of a firearm's barrel.

The technical result is achieved by the fact that produce a hardening heat treatment of the breech, followed by external compression of the trunk, while the compression is generated by applying to the outer surface of the barrel of the detonation coating.

The inventive method is carried out as follows.

Produce heat treatment of the breech (for example, by induction hardening and tempering), provided design documentation.

Then on the outer surface of the barrel cause detonation coating (for example, using hard alloy powders VK-12). This treatment allows you to create stem material residual compressive stress due to buildup on the surface of the molten powder particles, followed by rapid cooling and compressing them on the surface. In the process of detonation spraying does not significantly heat the material of the barrel (not more than 100°C), which eliminates deformation and phase transformations in the material of the barrel. Thus by selecting the coating material can be shaped surface of the barrel required properties (color, corrosion resistance, wear resistance and other). In addition, detonation spraying process has a high performance (up to 1 mm coating for 20 s).

This method was tested on the example of smoothbore and NARES the x models firearms hunting firearms: SAIGA K" and "Tiger-9". Hardening processing of barrels produced by detonation installation "Ob". Was coated from a mixture of powders 95% of tungsten carbide (VC-12) and 5% of aluminum oxide. The coating thickness of 100 μm. Weapon tests with reinforced trunks showed increased survivability of the barrel 30...45%.

FIELD: weapons and ammunition.

SUBSTANCE: when manufacturing an item, formation of a coating on an inner surface of a barrel, smooth or rifled barrel, is carried out by means of mechanical pressure from a tool in the amount of at least 2.5 N/mm2. The coating material is represented by finely dispersed powders of natural mineral materials with energy density of at least 80 kJ/cm2 or their mixtures with a process medium. As a result, the coating with thickness of at least 50 mcm is produced. In process of operation the coating of the inner surface of the barrel is recovered periodically via a number of shots determined for each type of firearms by means of a tool developing pressure of at least 2.5 N/mm2 and by using powders of natural mineral materials or their mixtures with a process medium at the ratio of 1:1.

EFFECT: on an inner surface of a firearms barrel a corrosion-resistant coating is produced, which recovers the inner surface of the barrel and increases close pattern of shooting.
