The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for notifying a user of an electronic mail (e-mail services) on receipt of the electronic mail in a mail center.

In e-mail systems known from the prior art, the user, from a remote location accesses the e-mail by connecting to a server of a provider of Internet services (ISP) and check on it (so-called logging-on). The ISP has a mail center, responsible for the transmission and reception of electronic mail to/from the Internet and save a received e-mail. When a user connects to the ISP and registered it, the latter informs the user whether the mail center e-mail for him; any such mail is then loaded to the subscriber.

The disadvantage inherent in such known systems is that the user can determine whether the mail, only by connecting and registering with the ISP. If there is no mail, the time is wasted.

According to the first aspect of the present invention proposes a method of notifying the user of receipt of electronic mail (e-mail) in the mail center, including transmission of a notification message in the broadcast signal.

The proposed method may additionally include storing settings selected by the user according to his preferences, for example, regarding whether the user wants to be notified about incoming e-mail messages, and the number of e-mail messages, for which he wants to receive the notification. These settings can be stored in the above-mentioned receiver-decoder and in the database, which leads and supports the above statement.

Preferably, the user is notified of a selected number of e-mail messages. For example, the user may be notified of each e-mail message, the scientists mail centre, or the user can be notified only about the first e-mail received by the mail center after the last treatment given user to the mentioned mail center.

The present invention finds particular application in the broadcasting of digital data, which can be easily inserted additional information; accordingly, the said broadcast signal is preferably a digital data stream, preferably passed through a system of digital transmission. The mentioned e-mail message can be delivered to a user in any of the ways described above in relation to the notification message.

According to the present invention there is a method of exchanging data with the mail center, including the execution in the receiver-decoder application for e-mail (mail program). This enables a user to communicate with the mail center without the need for a separate computer.

According to one aspect of the present invention relating to the device, a device for notifying the user about the post is the arrival of electronic mail (e-mail), containing means for transmitting a notification message in the broadcast signal.

The proposed receiver-decoder may be configured to compare the identifier contained in the said notification message, with some identifier stored in the receiver-decoder. According to another aspect of the present invention relating to the device, it is proposed a receiver-decoder for receiving and/or decoding of the broadcast signal, having means for receiving electronic mail through some of the first medium and the means for receiving through some second environment different from the first mentioned environment, the notification message indicating the receipt mentioned in the mail center e-mail.

Mentioned first environment may be a switched environment, and the second medium may be a broadcast environment.

Figure 1 shows a system 1 for digital television in General. In the present invention is mainly used conventional system 2 digital television, in which to transmit compressed digital signals applied compression system MPEG-2. - account settings to use the Internet at the request of subscribers (subscribers);

The notification e-mail

EMNS also checks whether a given user is prohibited, for example, for SMS to use the notification system. If the above checks indicate that the user should be informed about his e-mail, it generates a notification message for transmission to the user. From the system EMNS in the center 63 of the broadcast request is transmitted on the broadcast mentioned notification messages. After receiving this request, the broadcast center sends this notification message for a predefined period of time and at regular intervals, for example every 15 minutes during the day. The duration of this time cycle may vary; for example, a notification message can be transmitted relatively frequently for a first period of time and relatively rare for a second period of time. A notification message can be transmitted, for example, as message access management (EMM) or MPEG-2 section.

Below with reference to Fig.7, we describe an EM structure, suitable for transmission of a notification message indicating the receiving e-mail. This EMM sequence of bits of digital data includes a header 3060, actually EMM 3062 and signature 3064.

Title 3060 contains the type identifier 3066, which in this case identifies this EMM as EMM individual type (i.e. targeting any single subscriber)ID 3068 length that indicates the length of the EMM, address 3070, based on the number of the smart card of the subscriber, the identifier 3072 operator and ID 3074 key.

Actually EMM 3062 contains information identifying this EMM as notifying you email and other information related to the notification mail. For example, the EMM may contain information relating to the recipient of the relevant e-mail messages, for the case of the home environment (where there are several users of e-mail, using the same receiver-decoder), the sender of the corresponding e-mail message header and themes relevant e-mail messages, the number of pending e-mail messages, etc. in Addition, in this part of the EMM contains the index ID that identifies this particular EMM.

Finally, the signature 3064, as a rule, the length of 8 bytes, is designed to perform a number of checks for which the detection of damage to the rest of the data contained in this EMM.

As mentioned above, instead of using to send notification messages EMM equally you can use MPEG-section, includes any part of the above information or it all. The advantage of using MPEG-section is that it does not address the access control for the television programs.

Each receiver-decoder monitors the incoming notification messages and retrieves those that contain the number of the smart card of this receiver-decoder. If the receiver-decoder is used by several users, it identifies a specific user, which is addressed to this e-mail message based on information contained in the notification message. Then the receiver-decoder informs the appropriate user that he has received e-mail, for example, by displaying any messages on the display of the receiver-decoder or on TV. Can also be displayed and other information contained in this notification message.

Finally, after receipt by the receiver-decoder message notifying you of incoming mail, it "burns" the message that it does not appear again. This is done by comparing the incoming notification messages already received and inform l is nil about new messages. Typically, such an EMM or MPEG-section will contain the index ID that identifies this EMM or MPEG-section, and in this case to determine whether the message has already been made, and appropriate measures are compared only those index identifiers. Upon receipt of the notification received for his mail, the user may send the provider of Internet services a request to send him this e-mail. Electronic mail may be transmitted to or through the PSTN 24, or on channel 8, 9, 10 in the manner described above with reference to figure 3. In one alternative embodiment of the present invention upon receipt of a message notification e-mail, the receiver-decoder 13 automatically loads the appropriate e-mail message and stores it locally, so that the subscriber can access it after some time.

When the user retrieves your e-mail message, EMNS receives from ISP a message stating that the e-mail message is retrieved. After receiving this message, EMNS stops sending the notification.

In yet another embodiment, the user is the tel "popped" all e-mail message as a whole, in the same manner as that described above in relation to the notification message. This alternative implementation may be preferable in communication systems with wide bandwidth, such as cable and fiber optic transmission systems. The programmable logic device includes injectors designed to receive PCIe packets from a processor and generate messages therefrom, ejectors designed to receive messages and generate PCIe packets therefrom, a router and transceivers. The injector writes incoming PCIe packets in a ring buffer, where cell padding is counted.
